Another artist on the 3024 mentoring programme, Berlin-based DJ and producer Guava seeks inspiration from his friends and community for a stunning mix which opens blissfully with a selection of unreleased tracks from Pace Yourself and Guava himself. The session then builds into the a kaleidoscope of breaks-filled colour featuring tracks from Talik, ADG, Stenny, and 2 Bad Mice to name a few.
Speaking about the mix, Guava says, “doing mixes is really interesting from my side as I come at it from a production perspective. Whenever I do mixes I tend to just use music that is written by my friends and my wider scene. As a result, I think musically, it’s such a advantage as you end up with a cohesive structure that exists and all cuts from the same cloth – yet still have enough variation in it for it to be interesting. It’s not me making an accolade about my own music, it’s just the way I select tracks, having stuff from my friends, my peers and my own music as well. My music is inspired by my peers. Sometimes when I’m stuck with when making my own music, a friend said to me why don’t you make a mix and you’ll have a better understanding of the music that moves you – no matter what genre or tempo. So this is kind of an insight into the process behind some of my productions.”
In a few short years under the Guava alias, real name Bradley Hutchings, has released much-loved EPs on the likes of Holding Hands, Touch From A Distance, Breaka Recordings, Control Freak and Tread Records. This year, he made his debut on 3024, contributing to the second compilation series, ‘Everything Merged’, which features tracks all from producers on the mentoring programme. Aside from his work under Guava, Bradley is a session guitarist and composer, previously working as a touring musician with bands such as Malena Zavala and LION. This has led to performances at BBC Maida Vale, Hammersmith Apollo, The Roundhouse and Abbey Road Studio 2.
