Untitled 909 Podcast 128: J.Aria ‘i honestly love you’ [Field Maneuvers Takeover]

Next up in the Field Manuevers takeover is Dalston Superstore resident J.Aira who late last year released their debut single, ‘TPL’, on the club’s in-house label. Through their work as a vocalist, composer and DJ, they showcase a passion for unearthing lost queer histories and bringing them to life whether that’s through radio documentaries and soundtracking for Stonewall 2069. Growing up, J.Aria found themselves fixated on voices such as Sarah Vaughan, Diana Ross, Judy Garland and Whitney to name a few and cite Sylvester, Arthur Russell, Patrick Cowley, Anthony and The Johnson’s as influences too.

‘This mix was recorded in Brooklyn NYC in August ’22. When I play I’m building the extended narrative of a ki, with twists that encompass diverse sounds and the journey of the dancefloor. Sultry and percussive, deep and acidic, with high emotion and tears. Field Maneuvers have supported me as an artist and a family member for so many years now that it’s hard for me to imagine where I’d be without their constant encouragement, and a lifetime’s worth of unbeatable dancefloor memories that almost too perfect to have been real. K-Hand, Eris Drew, Violet – sets and connections that have changed me forever. It’s unbeatable.’ – J.Airia
