Untitled 909 Podcast 018: Sarjan Paul

The 18th edition of our podcast series comes from London-based DJ and promoter Sarjan Paul. A resident at local radio station Netil, Sarjan will be kicking off his new venture later this month with the debut edition of his party series Expansion Pak alongside k means. Taking place at Four Quarters in Peckham, cartridge 1 is headlined by Peach Discs affiliate Chekov.

Talking about the mix Sarjan says, ‘I was meant to record bangers but that didn’t quite happen. I ended up in a headspace of wanting to work through entrancing stuff so your wrists are safe. I like to not dwell on things for too long and try to switch things around in a coherent way where I can otherwise I get bored with myself. So a lot of the process in building this was taking the structure and tunes then switching them around, trying to look for contrasts that work together. I don’t really know how to dance to these tunes, I find them kind of confusing, stuff like this makes me want to just stand still and let my brain get battered in various ways. Going through wormholes and coming out wherever. It’s taken a long time to get comfortable with bringing that out in my mixes. DJs like upsammy and Objekt have driven a lot an inspiration with that, so hopefully, that’s reflected in the mix. Enjoy x’
