Untitled 909 Podcast 016: GAGARIN’s Phenomena Mix

GAGARIN is a solo project by musician Graham Dowdall who has a long career of performing and collaborating with the likes of Nico, Pere Ubu, Roshi ft. Pars Radio and Suns of Arqa among others. Starting off as a drummer, his music crosses boundaries of sound art to dance music to free improvisation to ambient. His next EP, ‘Phenomenology’ is out today on Courier Sounds and features four tracks based or featuring an event, a sound or a thing. Comprised of field recordings from the five hills in Surrey, tiny birds and his back garden during Hogmanay – the EP is a dynamic and personal collection of work.

Providing the sixteenth mix in our podcast series, GAGARIN says, ‘the mix features lots of music that I am connected to artistically and in other ways. Some of the tracks are from the Courier label who are releasing Phenomenology my new EP, some are other projects I have been involved in and other stuff I also admire. Lots of the tracks feature in some way field recordings or might have aspects lyrically or sonically that connect with the loose concept of Phenomena – ranging from nut allergy to sunspots to cicadas etc.’
